Of all the shoots I’ve worked on, I still get giddy about cookbook shoots. It’s the perfect
combination of art, chaos and storytelling. When it comes to cookbooks, most of the time you’re
shooting a lot of food in a small amount of time. Cookbook shoots are exciting because it offers
an opportunity to flex my creative muscles.
Here’s a recap from the cookbook shoot I did with Meg Gerber, owner of Grounded Nourishment. Meg is known for creating Gluten-Free recipes that are still delicious!
For this shoot, Meg wanted very soft bright light like the book Clean Slate by Martha Stewart. Meg wanted to feature lots of fresh ingredients and vibrant colors to highlight the beauty of her Gluten-Free recipes. The goal was to make gluten-free food look good while still being healthy.
Dani Colombatto was the food stylist for this shoot. Dani loves color and vibrancy so I knew she’d bring the vision to life. We had fun playing around with the different colors, and Gluten-Free recipes featured in this cookbook.
We executed the goal and ended up with gorgeous, bright, soft photos that emphasized the beauty of the gluten-free recipes. Healthy and nutritious can still be beautiful.
It was an experience that took many weeks of planning, but it was worth every second.
